Original Song Project: Morgan Young - La Ranchera

Back in the saddle after far too long not playing. All work and no play makes flip-siders a dull bunch. Today's entry is something that is inspired by, but far removed from, The Zombies' I Remember When I Loved Her and The Who's The Good's Gone. I also should also throw a tip of the hat to the 13th Floor Elevators' Rollercoaster which I have been listening to a ton recently. Duane Eddy and Hugo Montenegro should get some props too. This little number is called La Ranchera. I hope you like.

Original Song Project: "Boulder Bound", Morgan Young

Here is a little ditty I recorded this weekend while hanging with my kids in Goblin Valley, Utah. My daughter originally came up with the basic melody while singing about butterflies and bacon. Two things she really loves! I added a few flourishes to fill it out and changed the name from Pretty, Pretty Butterflies and Bacon to Boulder Bound, which we were at the time.

It's a one-track recording with no edits and employs a Gibson J-200 in open G tuning and a straight tuned Lee Oskar Harmonica in the key of G and that's all. It's a finger stretcher.

The Flip-Side Original Song Project: "The Last Dance at Ipatiev" by Morgan Young

In the spirit of "never ask someone to do something you yourself are not willing to do," I'll be the first to post an original song. The song is an instrumental entitled The Last Dance at Ipatiev,
and, in addition to my "musicianship", features a one-word contribution from my daughter, Olivia. It includes two guitar tracks, one piano track and one triangle track. (Yep, a whole track for my son's toy triangle.) The guitar is a 1999 Gibson SJ200 and the piano is an 1800's era piano that came with our house. She's out-of-tune, but I kinda like it that way. I hope you enjoy. Bonus points for anyone who can decipher the title.
