Song of the Week: The Rumblers - I Don't Need You No More

To prove that rock-n-roll had some hope between Buddy Holly and The Beatles, we present to you The Rumblers performing I Don't Need You No More. This number was originally released as the Flip-Side to The Rumblers' debut surf instrumental, Boss, on Downey Records in September of 1962. Dot picked up the release and gave it national attention in November of that same year.

I Don't Need You No More was recorded in the back of Wenzel's Music in Downey, California. The same music store in which The Chantays recorded Pipeline.
Until next time, we'll see you On The Flip-Side!

  1. Whoa! Real cool early 60s [almost garage] rocker. I Already posted their comp. cd but never heard this one little ditty. Cheers Flip-Side!

    1. It's a cool one indeed. I wish that bass was a little more upfront because he's doing some cool stuff. This sounds a lot like the stuff that was coming out of the Pacific Northwest around the same time. That Little Richard goes surfing sound.

    2. Yeah man! There were a few American bands playin' raw, R'n'B flavored Rock'n'Roll after the initial blast of the 50's & before the British Invasion. The Bobby Fuller 4 from Texas, were one, The Sonics from Seattle another, and The Rumblers from Downey, California! One of my fave double-sided 45s: "Boss"-side A, "I Don't Need You No More"-side B on the Downey label. Good stuff!
