  1. Morgan's Pick:
THE SQUIRES. Chimey guitar, brilliant guitar solo on the a-side and an epic scream. And both sides only clock in at a combined 4:25.

  2. The Blue Mongoos. The bass line and organ on side A were perfect. Vocals and the pure aggressive nature of the flip side won me over.

  3. I have to go with Magoos here. Both sides of this disc have stellar bedrock performances. Plus the A-side has one of the most memorable guitar fills ever.

  4. As good as the Squires tunes are, this one is easy. I vote for THE MAGOOS! One of the best singles of the mid-60's.

  5. Very tough call for me, but I've got to go with the Magoos; their cuts are a little stronger. The Dovers would've won out over the Magoos but the Squires were not quite up to the task.

  6. My first instinct was to vote for the Squires, because "Going All the Way" is one of the best and most perfect non-hit singles of all time. But other factors needed to be weighed. "We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet" is just too brilliant to be voted down in this particular bout: a snotty us-against-the-world attitude, lots of bass crunch, and that soaring Echoplex guitar solo that lifts the entire song in the middle. When "Gotta Get Away"is factored in, the vote is clinched. It's a killer B-side, while "Go Ahead" is very good but not outstanding. So my vote goes to the boys from the Bronx.
