Ben Fong-Torres, is this your copy of Booker T and The MG's
Hip Hug-Her/Summertime which I picked up on San Pablo Avenue in Albany, California back in the 80s? If so, I'm willing to negotiate it's safe return (sans Stax sleeve...'cause that wasn't on it when I got it). I won't even say anything about the (should be) criminal activity of writing on a record. Let alone putting your name on it -- again -- with one of those heavy duty Dymo label makers. Your sister, or some other devilish character, probably kept snatching it from your room...compelling you to go to such drastic extremes to protect your Booker T collection.
Just let me know if you want this back.

ReplyDeleteNice of you to not say anything about the act of altering the original condition of records. And you've shown great restraint in leaving the sticker on the label, although I doubt removing it would be a pretty fix.

ReplyDeleteWell, I did. I implied it should be a crime to put ones name on a record they claim to possess. As for taking the sticker off...are you kidding? Ben Fong has his name on that record twice just in case someone tries to peel the damn thing off. At this point it would be like removing the yellow banana sticker from the VU album.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea as to the name of the store. I picked up lots of good things there...including the The Xtreems doing a weird, fuzzed out version of Substitute on Star Trek Records.

ReplyDeleteSo I just heard from Ben Fong-Torres. He reminded me that his name is NOT Ben Fong, but Ben Fong-Torres. And, thus, the record is not his. I guess I can keep it. Until Ben Fong comes out of the woodwork asking for it back.
