Song of the Week: Onie Wheeler - Jump Right Out of This Jukebox

Onie Wheeler and his Ozark Boys hailed from southern Missouri. In 1957 Onie cut one single for Sam Phillips' much heralded Sun Records and toured with Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Jump Right Out of This Jukebox was the Flip-Side of his lone Sun Records single. It's just a classic honky tonk number that would sound downright perfect in any honky tonk or rockabilly club today.

  1. Excellent full-song harmonica goin' on there. But what's that for percussion? Sounds like sticks hitting a box stuffed with a pillow. Good stuff!

  2. It's a horse trotting over a bamboo bucket

    1. That may be. You've got a keen ear.

In case one were wondering, that's Onie in the lower left of that picture.

    2. Have you ever heard of a modern honky tonk guy out of Louisville, KY (I think) named Slick Andrews? Sounds a lot like this Onie cat.

  3. My 2nd cousin Doyal Nelson is in the front on the right, and my other 2nd cousin is back row left side behind Onie.
