News reached me this morning that Jesse Morris passed on earlier this month. Seeing him regularly down in the BART station several years ago got me doing this whole Busker blog to begin with. This is the last recording I did of him, an original composition entitled True Red Blood. I hope you enjoy.
An article about him can be read here.
The lyrics to True Red Blood can be seen in the comments section. They're really good.
Thanks for sharing, Jack. I was bummed to see this AM about Jesse. SInce he was one of your first posts, and was so talented and open to your idea to record buskers and publish them here, I have always held a soft spot for Jesse. Never met the man. Can't say I could walk in his shoes. But I am certainly sad that it ended as it did. I wish for all -- most pointedly his friends and family -- that it had a different outcome. This original song of his now has a certain poetic conclusion to it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I leave this town burning, I'll look back as it suffocates
ReplyDeleteAnd ashes to dust you’ve had your fun and still feel out of place
When I leave this town burning, for me I hope you’ll yearn
And you all can die before your time but for me I’ll wait my turn
When I look out my window, I'll meet towns that can hardly live
I’ll meet real people with true red blood that got something left to give
Got something left to give
Ain’t like you
No woman by my side, no family back at home
No home to ever come home to, no blues to keep me blue
I’ll just stay in the black as I speed on down that track
But a town lay there in ashes I’ll pass through but I won’t go back
When I left my town burning, just to watch it suffocate
And ashes were dust, and I had my fun but I left behind my hate
When I look out my window, I met towns that can hardly live
I met real people with true red blood that got something left to give
Got something left to give
Ain’t like you
No woman by my side, no family back at home
No home to ever come home to, no blues to keep me blue
I’ll just stay in the black as I rot right off my track
But a town lay there in ashes I’ll pass through but I won’t go back
No woman by my side, no family back at home
Got no home to ever come home to, no blues to keep me blue
I’ll just stay in the black as I crash right off my track
And my town lay there in ashes I’ll pass through but won’t go back
I won’t go back, no I won’t back my dear
To find you
No woman by my side, no family back at home
Got no home to dare come home to, those blues don’t keep me blue
I’ll just stay in the black as I bleed right off my track
But a town lay there in ashes I’ll pass through but I won’t go back
My town lay there in ashes, might pass through but I won’t go back
And I might lay in ashes, I’ll pass through but I won’t come back.
I only knew him as my very funny doorman. This is sad.
