Do you recall those times in your youth when you were finally done with your town? Or perhaps you feel that way now. Your hometown was all that was holding you back, and finally the time comes and you leave. After some time that feeling subsides and for some people you begin to look a bit at your history. Maybe it was a bit rough out in the world, or maybe it was you realized how full a picture you and your friends had created in your youth. Some time passes and you just might take some pride in your hometown. After all, it made you what you are.
This week's busker recording speaks to this. OFD, Originally From Dorchester. Here's Bryan MacPherson doing OFD outside Montgomery BART a couple weeks ago.
This has grown on me a lot. It wasn't until your query at the end of the song, Jack, that I paid more attention to the lyrics. They are very nice and quite ubiquitous even to those that live beyond Dorchester. I like your right-up as well. Last, the quality of your recording is great.
ReplyDeletethat should be "write up", not sure how that came out right. Er, I mean right is wrong.
ReplyDeleteNice song, very pleasant voice. In the best folkie tradition he is singing from the heart in a plain-spoken manner about the things he's seen/done/felt. Good stuff. Great recording Jack.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliments and for checking in at the busker corner, Mr. GeeBee. It was an excellent performance, so that helps the recording a lot. I like his voice, too - he has a unique sense of vocal timing and inflection.
ReplyDeleteAlso, he really speaks to my experience as a youngster. Of course, for me, it was played out in other ways in Sacramento, Davis, and SF.
