Video Diary: The Who, "A Quick One"

The best music performance ever filmed. Period.

  1. Amazing. I love this song and this performance. I remember first listening to this and for the first time really understanding what these guys were about. It is at the same a complete anomaly and a harbinger. Truly amazing. Several things: trying to really nail down what that thing Roger's wearing (and will wear many times) is all about. It's traditional native american wear inspired, right? And Keith. What, does he have a water machine going off at the end there? And did you notice Pete nuzzling the mic back into position at the end.

  2. This is very entertaining and I have never been a The Who fan. (I would say that sheepishly but were blogging so I don’t have to!) This is self-expression at its finest. Why didn’t you tell me that one must see The Who to appreciate The Who? Watching them perform is definitely part of their package, no? Speaking of packages, what’s inside in those stellar, tighty-whitey pants? HOT! Anyway, their harmonies are cool, their jumps are cooler. Keith Moon IS a Muppet.

  3. I'm glad you like it, Serene. It's my favorite music performance ever filmed. The band was clearly firing on all pistons on this quirky song of Lost Love --> Adultery --> Forgiveness. As you note, the harmonies are tremendous. The band were fans of The Beach Boys and you can really pick up on that influence here.

The Who live were about as good as it ever gets. They were very energetic and clearly loved playing and that love came out in their performances. And, moreover, I think the humor in their music (case in point with this song) really came out in their live performances.
